This year’s summer observations were done on approximately the same date as last year’s even though the spring emergence of leaves didn’t occur until 2 weeks later than last year. It’s interesting to note that the students focused on the shape of the entire tree’s foliage for their observations in the summer journals.
Again, since this is the second year of data collection, we were able to compare and contrast last year’s sugar maple tree to this year’s sugar maple tree through the photographs. As you can see from the photographs, the leaves have fully developed and filled up most of the branches on the sugar maple tree even though this year’s leaves took an extra two weeks to begin to come out of the buds.
